The International summit on Leadership in Healthcare is a collaboration between Baylor-Uganda, Pepal, and Janssen PharmaceuticAl Companies of Johnson & johnson.
With support from the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), Baylor-Uganda provides integrated pediatric HIV/AIDS care and treatment in 91 health facilities across the country.
Baylor-Uganda has been operating in Kampala for over ten years and runs a clinical Center of Excellence (COE) on the campus of Mulago Hospital in Kampala, provides services to five Kampala city council suburban satellite clinics, five satellite COEs in Kaberamaido, Kasese and Kitgum, and in 81 Ministry of Health facilities across the country.
Services provided are based on the 10-point pediatric HIV/AIDS management plan which involves: HIV testing and counseling, antiretroviral therapy, management of opportunistic infections, home based care and treatment, nutritional support, provision of the basic care package and psychosocial support among others.
Baylor-Uganda has supported the Caring Together project together with Pepal and Janssen for the past three years, and has seen the project's implementation in 270 health facilities in Rwenzori and Eastern regions. Baylor-Uganda will be carrying forward the lessons learned and best practices from the project in the Baylor Leadership Academy, which will be launched at the International Summit on Leadership in Healthcare.
Pepal's vision is a world in which commercial, social and political agendas are aligned to achieve sustainable and scalable change. Bringing together NGOS, corporates and international leaders, Pepal has projects in Uganda, Tanzania and Myanmar spanning health systems strengthening, cervical cancer and HIV/Aids.
Pepal creates leaders capable of driving change. Pepal designs and delivers executive training programmes that take place in developing countries and emerging markets. Leaders from business, NGO and government come together, are challenged to apply their leadership skills in an unfamiliar context, and develop new ideas to solve the social issue at stake. Pepal also supports the implementation of ideas that have come from the training process, working with participants to transform these ideas into concrete projects.
Pepal has been working on the Caring Together project since the concept was first incepted in 2012, and has aided Baylor-Uganda in the implementation of the project since the receipt of a three year grant from Comic Relief UK in 2015.
